Cytori Therapeutics, which makes products used in adult stem cell harvesting and research, said Friday its fourth-quarter loss widened as sales and marketing and other expenses grew.
The San Diego company lost $9.5 million, or 24 cents per share, on $2.9 million in total revenue for the three months that ended Dec. 31. That compares with a loss of $6.5 million, or 22 cents per share on $2.2 million in the final quarter of 2008.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected, on average, a loss of 16 cents per share on $1.8 million in revenue.
The company makes a line of products called StemSource, which are used to extract, freeze and apply adult stem cells taken from fat tissue.
Cytori Therapeutics Inc. said sales and marketing expenses rose 90 percent to $2.2 million, while general and administrative expenses climbed 30 percent to $3.1 million.
